About Restylane

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steve Laverson provides a wide range of dermal filler products to address visible signs of facial aging, such as wrinkles, lines, and lost volume. Restylane is a popular brand of injectable wrinkle fillers since it treats several issues with specialized formulas for long-lasting results. It uses a synthetic version of the body's natural HA (hyaluronic acid), which works to provide your complexion with a softer, natural appearance that is fuller and more supple. A custom dermal filler treatment plan can improve the appearance of mild, moderate, or severe facial wrinkles and lines, as well as add fullness to the lips and cheeks. San Diego Cosmetic Clinic carries a selection of Restylane products, including:

  • Restylane: Addresses facial folds and wrinkles
  • Restylane Defyne: Fills in deep laugh and smile wrinkles
  • Restylane Lyft: Creates lift and volume in the mid-face
  • Restylane Refyne: Corrects moderate laugh and smile wrinkles
  • Restylane Fynesse: Fills in lines and wrinkles around the mouth (peri-oral) and eyes (peri-orbital)

Ideal Candidates

Restylane treatments are suitable for any patient older than 21 years who wants to improve their overall appearance, whether by reducing the appearance of facial lines or adding volume to the cheeks. Since this injectable family has a number of effective formulas, your treatment will be customized to accurately suit your needs, concerns, and goals. Restylane can both help treat early signs of aging and boost the fullness in your cheeks, depending on the formula selected. It could also improve moderate to severe wrinkles, like frown lines, laugh lines, Crow's feet, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and more. Some treatments contain lidocaine so you will need to discuss any allergies you may have during your pre-treatment consultation to prevent a negative reaction from occurring.

Procedure Technique

Restylane injections are performed in the minor procedures room at San Diego Cosmetic Clinic. A numbing cream may be applied to the treatment areas for greater comfort if requested. The product is injected into the skin with a fine-gauge needle and is then massaged so it reaches the intended areas. Several injections may be administered, followed by a cold compress to help control inflammation. Every variation of the Restylane formulas is injected the same way but in different areas according to your unique concerns and aesthetic goals.

What to Expect

Once your Restylane injectable session is complete, you may resume normal activities. Your recovery will vary, depending on what you are having treated so be sure to ask your injector what you can expect. The treated areas may be slightly swollen and red following treatment, but this usually goes away after a few hours. Bruising may occur, but this can be safely camouflaged with makeup. Dr. Laverson typically advises his patients to avoid exercise for 24 hours. You also should sleep with your head propped up for the first night after your appointment. Many patients will notice visible changes right after their session, but it may take 1 – 2 weeks before your final results are fully developed. Restylane injections often last up to one year, depending on the formula selected.
